Optometrist – Pre- and Post-Surgical Eye Care Rudd Vision | Puyallup, WA Starting at $800/day | Part-Time (2–3 Days/Week) | Growth Opportunity Not Your Typical Optometry Position. No routine eye exams. No optical sales. Just exceptional surgical eye care. Are you an optometrist who loves the clinical side of eye care and wants to participate in the exciting and cutting-edge field of Cataract and Refractive Surgery? Rudd Vision was established in 2025 as an alternative to the chaotic and over-stressed environment of current surgical eye care. At Rudd Vision, our team takes pride in the “low-volume, high-touch" practice of premium surgical eye care. Jay Rudd, MD has established a single surgeon-owned referral-based surgical practice with the latest technology in surgical eye care. We are looking for an optometrist who is interested in helping us deliver exceptional care, with unparallelled outcomes. The response to this style of practice has been overwhelming and is growing. Working collaboratively with our local optometrists, we have shown them that their patients can be cared for in a very personalized, and efficient manner. We do not perform any routine eye care, as we feel the local optometric community can offer excellent routine screening and management of medical eye disease. Once our patients are stable following surgery, we refer patients back to their primary Optometrist. We are looking for a motivated, clinically driven Optometrist who is excited about surgical eye care, cutting-edge technology, and delivering outstanding patient experiences and outcomes. Whether you're a newer graduate eager to expand your clinical experience or an established optometrist looking for a refreshing change, this is an opportunity to practice at the forefront of modern ophthalmology. Why Rudd Vision? Check out our website at www.ruddvision.com and look at our reviews. We're a surgery-focused practice built around exceptional patient experiences, advanced technology, and collaborative care. Dr Rudd has been practicing refractive cataract surgery for over 25 years and loves to teach. He is committed to helping the new Optometrist understand and master the art of pre- and post-operative surgical eye care. Here's what makes this opportunity different: Competitive compensation: Starting at $800 per day, with compensation based on experience and qualifications. Work-life balance: Flexible part-time schedule of approximately 2–3 days per week, with the potential to transition into a full-time position as the practice grows. No routine vision exams or optical sales: Focus your time on more challenging medical and surgical eye care. Advanced technology: Gain exposure to modern cataract and refractive procedures, including premium intraocular lenses, laser-assisted cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK and EVO ICL. Work directly with a surgeon: Collaborate closely with Dr. Jay Rudd and participate in the surgical patient journey from evaluation through recovery. Dr. Rudd is a fellowship-trained Refractive Cataract surgeon who has practiced for over 25 years in the area. He is eager to help educate and work closely with an optometric colleague. Dedicated clinical support: Technician support is available to Work alongside the Optometrist to support efficient patient care. Professional growth: Develop expertise in surgical co-management, refractive outcomes, premium IOL technology, and clinical quality improvement. Make an impact: Join a growing practice where your ideas, clinical judgment, and contributions matter. What You'll Do As our Optometrist, you'll play an integral role in providing exceptional care to patients before and after surgery. Clinical Responsibilities Initially, provide postoperative evaluations and management, including one-day postoperative visits. Once comfortable with the style and details of our practice, perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations for cataract and refractive surgery candidates. Monitor surgical healing, visual recovery, and patient satisfaction. Identify and manage postoperative concerns in close collaboration with our surgeon. Educate patients with surgical expectations, visual outcomes, and recovery. Help ensure seamless continuity of care between Rudd Vision and referring optometrists. Help Dr. Rudd provide urgent care for our patients. One could consider this a mini Refractive Cataract Surgery fellowship. Clinical Collaboration & Growth Collaborate directly with Dr. Rudd on patient care and surgical outcomes. Participate in clinical outcomes tracking, analysis, and quality improvement initiatives. Support the development and refinement of preoperative and postoperative care protocols. Build positive relationships with local optometrists and referring providers. Potentially participate in professional education, outreach, and collaborative events with the local optometric community. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is curious, motivated, personable, and passionate about delivering high-quality care. Qualifications Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution. Active Washington State optometry license, or eligibility for licensure. Strong clinical assessment and patient communication skills. Interest in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and postoperative care. Comfortable working collaboratively in an efficient, patient-centered environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellent patient outcomes. Newer graduates are encouraged to apply! Prior surgical co-management experience is a plus, but a genuine interest in learning and growing within surgical eye care is equally important. Schedule & Compensation Compensation: Starting at $800 per day. Schedule: Approximately 2–3 days per week. Preferred days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with flexibility based on practice needs. Growth: Potential for increased days and a full-time opportunity as surgical volume expands. Engagement structure: Independent contractor arrangement preferred, subject to mutually agreed terms and applicable requirements. Ready to Do Something Different? If you're looking for an opportunity to step outside the traditional optometry setting, expand your surgical knowledge, and become part of a practice that's growing and doing things differently, we'd love to meet you. Join Rudd Vision and help shape the future of surgical eye care in the South Puget Sound. Apply today! Please submit your resume and a brief introduction telling us what interests you about surgical and refractive eye care. Rudd Vision is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes qualified applicants from all backgrounds.
